Backcountry Basecamp welcomes you to Lake City, Colorado and invites you to spend a relaxing stay in a comfortable little hostel style lodge that is located in the National Historic District in walking distance to the downtown restaurants and shops. We are located directly across the street from the visitor's center and post office. The property offers four bedrooms and four baths, Room 1 has a set of bunkbeds and a queen bed with a private bathroom across the hall. Beds can be rented hostel style or you can rent the entire room. This is the best deal in town for those that are looking for the least expensive type of lodging.
We welcome hunters, trail users, ice climbers and anyone else that is looking for adventure in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. There are five 14ers just outside of town if you are in the mood for hiking and also many other trails for day hiking or overnight excursions. There are miles and miles of trout streams on public lands throughout the Lake Fork Valley. You can take a 4wd tour on the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway, visit a few ghost towns such as Henson, Capitol City, Animas Forks, and Carson, and be back in time for dinner. A few local businesses offer ATV, jeep, and snowmobile rentals. Besides the snowmobiling, if you are here in the winter remember we have the Lake City Ski Hill (www.lakecityskihill.com) and the Ice Climbing Park just up Henson Creek. As you can see there are numerous activities for you and the family and I'm sure I've forgotten others. If you need more information on things to do in Lake City, please visit lakecity.com.
